The main purpose of the cotton cover is to insulate the crystals. This insulation of the crystals lowers the conductive heat transfer and maximizes infrared heat transfer. The cotton covers also serve to protect your mat from sweat, oils, and dirt. They are machine washable and dry-able, unlike the mats themselves. Most people do not need to order extra covers, but have them on hand so one can be in he laundry while the other is in use.

The cover is not required for use but is a great addition for those with many clients sharing the same mat. It does not interfere with the infrared or negative ion output and is machine washable. Always use Mats with the standard cotton cover. The waterproof cover is to be used in conjunction with your standard cotton cover.
